Dear Parent/Carer

Further to our latest newsletter which mentioned our Ofsted inspection, we are now sending you a copy of the full report. This has either been emailed to you personally, or sent home with your child. Additionally, each Broadstone pupil has received a letter from the Lead Inspector.

Ofsted has made some radical changes to their inspection regime and we were one of the first schools to face the rigour of this new framework. The inspection team spent two days in the school, considering the evidence presented to them.

We urge you to read the report in its entirety. You will see that our inspection recognised the many positive features of the school, while identifying areas for improvement. Quite rightly the focus of the new inspection was on teaching and learning. Pupils’ safety and their cultural and social development were also closely assessed. Although we were naturally disappointed with some of our overall grades, we were encouraged to see that a number of judgements were in agreement with the school’s current vision for improvement and development.

We consider the Ofsted inspection process as a useful tool for the development of schools and we intend to react positively to its judgements. We welcome the support of you as parents and carers and if you have any concerns arising from the report please do not hesitate to contact the school.

We want to assure you that, as recognised by the inspection team, the staff and governors are determined to build on existing strategies for improvement.

Yours sincerely

Mr A Johnson (Headteacher) and Mrs J Hattemore (Chair of Governors)

Welcome to www.bmsweb.co.uk - the website for the pupils and parents/carers of Broadstone Middle School.

Mr. Andrew Johnson - Headteacher On behalf of the children, staff and governors I would like to welcome you to Broadstone Middle School’s web site.

We are a successful and thriving Middle School, within the Corfe Hills Pyramid, for 9-13 year olds and committed to ensuring all our pupils develop life long learning skills. This is achieved through establishing clear and high expectations for the delivery of a broad curriculum which is designed to be challenging, stimulating and supportive.

Broadstone’s ethos is underpinned by the school’s ‘3 Cs’ which are Care, Courtesy and Co-operation. We strive to create a positive, secure environment within which every child is valued.

If you have any questions that are not answered on this site, or, would like more information about Broadstone Middle, please feel free to contact the school. If you wish to visit us, again, contact the school in the first instance and I, my Deputy Head, or my Assistant Head would be happy to meet and show you around.

Mr. Andrew Johnson - Headteacher

Broadstone Middle School is situated in the beautiful locality of Poole.

The school grounds are scattered with trees and rich in wildlife and the whole site is located alongside heathland which is used for cross-country running and environmental work.

Within the grounds we have five play areas including a field for hockey, football, rugby, athletics and rounders and a large multi-use games area for tennis, netball, basketball, hockey and other team games.

The hard court area was refurbished in 2004 through the government's New Opportunities Fund for tennis, netball, basketball, hockey and other team games. There is an artifical cricket wicket and jumping pits.
