Image What are the National Curriculum Attainment Targets?

French shares a common structure with other NC programmes of study, pursuing knowledge, skills and understanding of the subject.

The National Curriculum programme includes:
  1. Listening: ability to understand and respond to spoken language
  2. Speaking: ability to communicate in speech
  3. Reading: ability to read, understand and respond to written language
  4. Writing: ability to communicate in writing

Image How do we ensure your child is developing & progressing?

Regular monitoring and recording of each pupil's progress in the four attainment target areas forms an integral part of the curriculum from year 6. In addition to continuous assessment by the teacher, there are specified assessment opportunities within each topic studied. The G.O.L.D. scheme (graded objectives for languages in Dorset) is used to assess pupils' progress in spoken French.

Image Homework

Learning assignments and written tasks arising from the topic studied will be set. In Years 5 and 6 homework is set only occasionally. In years 7 and 8 homework is set once a week.
