As a school, we at Broadstone Middle wish to celebrate all aspects of our pupils’ development and contribution, not only to their own learning, but to the school’s learning environment as a whole. With this in mind, we have initiated the ‘Snapshot Review’. This review will focus solely on a pupil’s attitude toward their work.

Staff are asked to make a ‘Snapshot’ appraisal of pupils they teach in respect of how well they are applying themselves to their work. As previously stated, this appraisal focuses on a child’s work ethic not their academic ability.

We believe that this system allows the opportunity for pupils of all abilities to be recognised and celebrated. If a pupil does not have a positive work ethic, we as a school will inform you and the pupil concerned and work together to improve this.

The ‘Snapshot Review’ will take place twice a year – usually early in the Autumn and Spring term, and any information will be forwarded to you before ‘Parent Consultation Evenings’. However, even before then, you will be informed of your child’s work ethic through one of three ways explained below:

Postcard:

"This postcard celebrates the fact that your child has been recognised for his/her excellent attitude towards their work, their peers, and the general values of the school, where we encourage all pupils to work, learn and socialise in a productive and positive atmosphere. As they have shown a commitment to these values during the past term and as her/his Head of Year, I would formally like to congratulate them. Well done. "
